ABOUT
Living at the base of Mt Coot-tha, I am surrounded by sky, trees and water. The interplay of these elements with light is endlessly captivating. Time of day, seasons and weather all play their parts and at times bring me to a stand still or gradually change as I sit in quiet contemplation. Rather than just commit these to memory or take a photo, I respond by painting.
I paint the intimate scenes which are quite 'everyday' in their nature. This allows for viewers to be subjective and perhaps connect these scenes with a landscape experience of their own - light coming through the trees, a reflection on water, the sway of grass along a bush path. These glimpses of home are the way I make a connection with time and place and have become an important of my travels through daily life.
I capture colour, shapes and mood through hue, tone and stroke. There is an energy I want to convey and strokes have a way of doing that in their deliberate and accidental way. The gesture of my hand, the colours that I note are left on the board as a board as a reminder of my perception of place.

I currently live and work in Brisbane, QLD after spending most of my life in the Blue Mountains, NSW.
Painting both in the studio and plein air helps to grow my practice which is based on keen observation and translation of my surroundings as I see and experience them.
